The Y is pleased to announce it has been selected to receive a $124,700 grant from the Vanguard Capital for Kids Program. Secured through the efforts of Smart Start of Mecklenburg County, these funds will support the Parents as Teachers (PAT) program to provide 25 families at Renaissance West Community Initiative with the information, support and encouragement needed to help children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life.
PAT serves under-resourced families with children ages 0-5 to promote kindergarten readiness and healthy development of children. PAT supports the entire family and teaches parents how to be their child's best, first teacher so that children are more advanced in language, social development and other cognitive abilities and better prepared to start school. PAT will serve an estimated 300 families throughout the Charlotte region in 2017.
The Vanguard Capital for Kids Program, established in 2015, is dedicated to helping provide a strong start for young children in communities near each of the investment company's U.S. sites. More than 1,500 of Vanguard's 15,000 global employees are based in Charlotte. CfK is funded through a combination of Vanguard corporate gifts and Vanguard employee gifts from the company's annual giving campaign.
