Give your solar eclipse glasses a second chance!

September 2017

Smart Start of Mecklenburg County is proud to Support Astronomers without Borders and Explore Scientific in their quest to collect eclipse glasses to be sent to schools in South America and Asia when eclipses cross those continents in 2019.

Young children are natural explorers, learning about their world by experiencing it. Although most astronomical phenomena require special equipment to be observed, the solar eclipse and changing shadows from the Sun are phenomena that children can observe through special glasses.  A solar eclipse is an opportunity not to be missed.  It is an astronomical phenomenon that children can observe and learn from that can inspire many science conversations and experiences the following weeks and months.

Please consider donating your solar eclipse glasses to this great cause to ensure that children all over the world can view this amazing experience.

Drop Off ~ Smart Start of Mecklenburg County Office is located inside the Children Family Service Center Building, 601 E. 5th Street, Charlotte, NC 28202

Parking ~ There are approximately 12 parking spaces with meters right in front of our building and the donation box is located in the lobby.

We will be collecting the solar eclipse glasses until December 2018.  Please contact Cassie Harris (charris@smartstartofmeck.org) with any questions or to arrange a large pick-up.
