The state of North Carolina implemented a star rating program to help parents make an informed decision when choosing quality child care programs for their children. Child care programs are monitored by state representatives on a clean and safe environment, education of the teachers and staff, and the curriculum used to teach classes. A 5-star rating is considered the highest star rating with a 1-star being the lowest. Smart Start funds programs to help child care programs improve their star ratings. We provide a listing of the 4 and 5-star programs located in Mecklenburg County. This list is provided by the NC Division of Child Care Development and is subject to change at any time.
